Fish shoal color reference
Many small fish live in shoals, and when a shoal swims together in one direction it is called a school. Moving as a group makes it harder for a predator to single out one fish. Fish in a school keep their spacing by sight and by sensing water movement along their sides.
Colors to reach for
Most shoaling fish are silver, so use dark blue on the backs, pale blue and silver on the sides, and white on the bellies, leaving small highlights uncolored.
- dark blue
- pale blue
